Blanche G. Merritt

1912 Ensemble

The original Blanche G. Merritt was fashion editor of Ladies Home Journal in the early 1900s. My Blanche's dress was inspired by an illustration from the September 1912 edition of Ladies Home Journal. All patterns are hand-drafted by me using original sources from the era and made as historically accurate as possible.

Day Dress -- Blue and white woven pattern over-dress with tulip hem at the front and back, trimmed with ivory cuffs and blue ribbon at the sleeves. Ivory diamond weave underskirt with blue ribbon trim. White cotton sleeveless waist with a high collar and pintucks at the front. White belt with blue ribbon trim. Detachable white shawl collar with blue ribbon trim.

Hat -- Blue linen flat-brimmed hat trimmed with pleated white net, navy velvet ribbon, and faux red berries

Undergarments -- Fully boned longline underbust corset with fastening at the front and lacing at the back. Lace trimmed combination with the tiniest white buttons I could find! Gored petticoat with dust ruffle and lace-trimmed flounce.
